It’s About to Get REAL

Blogging is sometimes tough to balance. There are some things that happen in the background that I cannot share at the time, but really would like to. The blogs and the posts that I enjoy the most are the ones that are 100% honest, where you can relate to someone on a human level and see a bit of your own thoughts and emotions in their experience. While you may not find anyone in your immediate circle of friends and family that are going through a similar situation, the internet is a big place and I always seem to stumble across other bloggers that are going through the same things.

So, without further ado, here is what has been happening in my life that I cannot wait to finally talk about…For the past couple months, my husband has been applying for MBA programs in the states. This means that we are planning on moving back to the states this summer! Am I excited? Yes, obviously. This is something that my husband has wanted to do for a couple years and we are finally making it happen. It has been a wonderful four years in Cape Town and I have had the best experience. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Now, admission decisions have rolled in and we were faced with making a decision for the next chapter of our lives. The two of us have discussed the options and come to a decision.

Want to know where we will be settling? Today, we reached a verdict.

CHICAGO…Here we come.

More details to come. Right now I am just overcome with gratitude and excitement.

<—Truth. Spiritual Nurse on Twitter is rocking my world.

Awesome!! I’m a Hospitality student at Kendall College in Chicago and absolutely love living here. It’s a great city for runners because there are paths all along the lake and through Lincoln Park (where I live).

My sister and her husband just moved there from Vegas and San Diego. They went to Bill & Guilana (sp?) Rancic’s place RPM Italian.

I wasn’t the wife I was the one getting my MBA. Work school study. Busy….my man was going for his Masters than PhD during the same time though.

SO exciting! So happy for him to have finally chosen, and for you to make that next big move! When’s the big move?

  • Sylvia

I just started reading your blog and was especially excited to see that you are an expat living in Cape Town where I studied for 3 months! Now your moving to Chicago where I went to undergrad and one of the greatest cities minus the snow. Hope your husband is going to NU!

Congrats! I love your blog and you will LOVE Chicago! Think of all the good parts of NYC, minus te stereotypical New Yorkers, and add people as friendly as the ones I’m sure you are used to in North Carolina (with slightly funnier accents)! First thing you have to do in the city is attend a Sculpt class at CorePower Yoga. Its a mixture of body pump and yoga aided by upbeat music. Awesome workout you will LOVE. Also, if you do decide to jump up to a full marathon, you should do the Chicago Marathon as a local. You get Morning Show at Rockefeller Center type crowds lining the path, not to mention its flat and fast. I have so many other good things about this city to say, but ill save that for another unnecessarily long comment…..

  • Katie

Congratulations! I just found your blog not too long ago and love it! I live in Chicago (in Lincoln Park) and it is such a great city–minus the cold. If you have any questions that I can help with…just let me know :)

  • BMH

  • Heather

Congratulations! I live in downtown Chicago with my boyfriend. He is working full-time and finishing up his MBA at University of Chicago… It is definitely tough sometimes, because we are so busy! However, the school is amazing and the time has gone by quickly. Is he doing full-time or part-time? NWU or U of Chicago? Let me know if you need any advice about living in Chicago/ want to meet up for a lake shore run!

  • Kamaile

How exicting! I’m new to your blog (found you through Peanut Butter Runner) and look forward to seeing all the fun stuff you do in Chicago. I’ve been once and am going back in October to run the Chicago Marathon. Congratulations to both of you! :-)

I lived in Chicago for 10 years…would be happy to give you pointers. Feel free to email me & we’ll chat!

But the beauty is in the walking — we are betrayed by destinations.

I love Chicago! I don’t think I could love there though (too cold for this southern girl). DH is from there. It is a great city with lots to do and a whole lot of culture. You will love it!

What you’ve done becomes the judge of what you’re going to do, especially in other people’s minds. When you’re traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don’t have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road.
