Blogger Book Club

My husband was gone most of last week, so it was an ideal time to get in non-stop girl time. I started off with my best friend shacking up with me Tuesday-Friday, and it finished with our monthly book club at my apartment.
I seriously love having people over, especially ladies that love food and wine as much as I do.

My one stress about hosting was having enough seating, but apparently this group loves standing.

We did a bit of a French theme with the food since our book was David Lebovitz’s The Sweet Life in Paris. There was plenty of cheese, bread, and desserts and we had a couple ladies do recipes from the book (not an easy feat when our group is rampant with food allergies).

Irina made chocolates (very impressed), we had seasonal French macarons provided my Vanille Patisserie, and Diane even accommodated our vegans with delicious “cheese” from Ste Martaen.

After we ate and discussed the book for 30 seconds, we had a little white elephant gift exchange.

Nothing like a random gift exchange. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” <—Theme of evening.

Thanks ladies for coming! It was great to see some new faces and I look forward to next month.

January is a serial killer book and I proposed we all bring recipes that incorporate cereal. I thought it was a good idea, but I didn’t see it on the invite. Weird.

Have you had vegan cheese? It scared me, but I really liked this one.

Have you done a white elephant gift exchange? Funniest gift you’ve gifted or received?

Thanks for hosting, I loved seeing your place!!

And you’re right, that vegan cheese wasn’t bad at all. It was sooo much better than daiya or the rice based ones I’ve seen at Whole Foods!

Was the book discussed? :-) Looks like some awesome Hors d’oeuvres.

  • Irina

Thanks again for hosting us!! I’m so glad I finally got a chance to meet you and all the other lovely ladies. Everything was delicious and I’m sad I didn’t take some more macarons because they are my favorite!

  • Katie

Ha ha ha. I like the cereal for a serial killer book idea. I think you should still go for it.

I have tried a lot of vegan cheeses and not cared for many. But… I was never a big cheese fan. I do like the teese stuff for making mac and cheese :)

I have not done a white elephant!

You should of taken some for the road. I put the rest in my freezer for a rainy day. I need to know your macaron recommendations for Chicago!
