Starting off on the Wrong Foot

The snow arrived. Everyone seems to be excited, I'm just curious about how this whole thing plays out when it continues. Does it snow for days at a time?

After signing up for the Wisconsin marathon and receiving a coupon for 20% off at RoadRunners Sports, I decided that the world was telling me I needed to have a shop. I got new shoes, new insoles, running tights, a handheld water bottle, and a hat. At the register I decided it was a Valentine's Gift from my husband that I would later tell him about. Whatever works to justify it, right?

I have every intention of eating healthy foods to fuel my increase in mileage, but today wasn't that day. This morning started off with gratitude, 8 miles in 1:15, and finally progressed to donuts.

Yep. Donuts. plural

I can't even remember the last time I had donuts, but I'm pretty sure that these were some of the best donuts I've had. Do-Rite is a boutique bakery that does fantastic donuts in interesting flavor and it is WAY TOO CLOSE to my apartment for my liking.

Cinnamon sugar old fashioned, Lemon old fashioned (my fav!), Valrhona Chocolate, and the infamous Candied Maple Bacon.

Okay, enough about the carbs. It wasn't my finest moment, but it happened and it was delicious and I wanted to share.

The Workouts...

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Spinning at Flywheel
Wednesday: I decided I was running a marathon, 4 miles
Thursday: 6 miles (supposed to be pace, I kept under a 9 min/miles)
Friday: 20 minutes of Turbofire (The January KLUTCHclub box had a disc of TurboFire's greatest HIITs and I'm in love)
Saturday: 3 miles
Sunday: 8 miles

Plus donuts....obviously

I'm still finalizing my training program, but it is low-key with 4 days of running and fairly low mileage.

With regards to my nutrition, it's been extra indulgent lately, so I plan to make some changes in the upcoming weeks.

Do you have insoles in your running shoes? Custom? Yep, my feet are not my strong suit.
Favorite donut? I used to be a big fan of a glazed jelly donut, but after today's discovery, I am all about the lemon old-fashioned from Do-Rite.

A year ago I got fitted for insoles because I was having knee problems...They were great! Now they're kind of flat and used for just strength training days...But if I had a discount like you did, I would DEFINITELY get them again. That chocolate donut and lemon donut looks delish!!

My coworkers have discussed this donut place you speak of. I'm very much intrigued and it's one of those things I may force the boy to take the train down with me one weekend just to get some...

Did you get custom insoles at Road Runners? I'm actually confused as to what custom insoles means, I've bought "special" ones (aka didn't come in the shoe), is that custom? Lol help a girl out.

Bacon has no place on donuts. No place! Get off of there, bacon!

I've had custom orthotics for the past 10 years... Expensive but have definitely made running halfs and my upcoming full possible

HOW RUDE OF ME TO NOT VISIT YOUR BLOG MORE OFTEN. No, I'm not just saying that because you offered to send me PB. I literally went though all your IG (in a non-creepy way) and I am obsessed with you (again, in a non-creepy way). Your style, the food you eat, pretty much everything. I love it. PS I might be doing the Chicago Marathon this year if I grow some balls to register this month so we should go eat some donuts, mmk? AND GUESS WHAT? I found the PB....not close to home, but there is one store that sells it here. They don't sell crunchy though (SAD FACE).......buuuuuuuuut I'm still paying you if you send me some :D

PS: I'm terribly sorry for this weird and confusing comment.
PPS: The best presents are the ones you buy yourself with someone else's money. Good work.

Everything in moderatio- aka you are doing fantastico!
ps. you should check out tj maxx and marshalls for workout gear- I get most of my stuff there! I got a that same waterbottle in the picture above for 7.99 at tj maxx!

Solid choice on the water bottle. I've got the exact same one and I LOVE it. In fact, I don't think I've gone for a single run without it since I bought it (aside from races).

Those donuts look so good. Oh man. Cinnamon sugar is usually my favorite, though I do enjoy a cake donut with chocolate frosting as well. It's always got to be a cake-style donut, though--the ones that aren't cooked that way always make my tummy angry, especially when they're filled with cream (which is such a bummer, because those kinds are amazingggggg).

Blueberry cake doughnut. Eat it warm and it will change your life.

I've heard dorite is amazing. Glad to hear it didn't disappoint! I used to love Dunkin Donuts chocolate cake munchkins. I'm honestly not the biggest fan of donuts (weird, I know) but I did love the chocolate munchkins.

Sometimes it does snow for days at at time, sometimes it just dumps 20 inches on us at once: http://www.magmilerunner.com/2011/02/snotorious-b-i-g-photos-and-video-part-two.html. But it only does that like once a decade, so we're good for awhile.

I don't wear custom insoles. I've never had trouble just running in the ones that come in my shoes.

I love french crullers.

So excited for you about the marathon!! Best of luck in your training! Also excited to hear about Lennie's summer internship in Chicago, although we weren't going to hate it if his summer job brought ya'll to Atlanta :) Please tell him congrats for me and David. I've been regularly checking out your blog and its great!

AHHH! I'm so super psyched for you. This is gonna be awesome.

I say you should enjoy the donuts and not worry about it! Think of them as your "I signed up for a marathon!" celebration. And I have the TurboFire series and really like it a lot. I've only done a couple of them and haven't tried the HIIT yet, so I think I'll have to give it a go soon. My advice on marathon training would be to still keep a day of speedwork in there to add some variety. I did a Hal Higdon plan for mine and wrapped it up feeling like I hadn't done enough pace or tempo work. But, I'm not a coach and that's just my two cents. I'm excited to follow your journey!

Is that your place, or a hotel? It looks so clean modern-like, I can't tell. Why I ask is because of the "ghost" chairs you have. LOVE them... did you get them inexpensively (fingers crossed) somewhere?

Livehalffull said...

I love Do-Rite Doughnuts! In the summer they have a booth right next to Union Station every Thursday morning that tempts me like crazy!

Sierra said...

They are pretty amazing. The hype is well warranted

Sierra said...

Nancy, you are my new favorite person...that is our apartment, but I've decorated it with some elements of my favorite hotels and your comment is a huge compliment. Ghost chairs are real...and expensive, but I love them.

Sierra said...

I thought all the videos where HIIT style, so I am going to have to check out the others. Do you have a favorite?

Sierra said...

Please tell me your coming to Wisconsin

Sierra said...

Thanks Jamie! We are really excited for Summer. We must plan something together soon. Perhaps a weekend in CH in the Spring? or Charleston?

Sierra said...

20 inches? yikes. I'm torn on the insoles thing, but I am a push over at the store and usually buy what they tell me to

Sierra said...

They have GF and Vegan for you food allergy people!

Sierra said...

from? do-rite? where is this magical blueberry cake?

Sierra said...

I'm nervous for the water bottle, but considering the lakefront trail has NO WATER (I learned this the hard way), I figured I needed something

Sierra said...

Queen of the deals. Invite me, I need a partner in crime to go into those big stores without a panic attack

meghan said...

They all have HIIT elements to them, but they're not all completely HIIT. I've done the Fire 30 and the Tone 30 and really liked them. In the Fire 30 there are two "fire drills" that are HIIT and definitely get your heart rate up really high before letting it come down to a recovery. I really like Fire 30. When I do another I'll share about it and let you know what I think!

Sierra said...

Seriously, how rude. Start reading NOW and tune in every day from now on...

I'm glad your obsessed, because I saw your abs in a photo with a bikini and I started a major blog crush on you. <---creepy, but one of my goals for this year is to get some abs. If you do the Chicago marathon, we can have a non-stop fun weekend until you have to run. I am thinking of doing it too, but we will see how the first one goes in May.

I am going the store to get you your PB. The crunchy is where it is at and you will so excited for the coconut and peanut party in your mouth.

Sierra said...

silly bacon

Sierra said...

I did that machine at Road Runners that makes them all hot and then you put your feet on them all slowly.

Sierra said...

yes. call me when you do, I will come show you the ropes.

Sierra said...

I don't know if they help, but I haven't been injured since wearing them, so they can't be doing any harm.

Tessa said...

You're running a marathon? Fantastic!! When will you be in Cape Town again? Missing our runs terribly xx

marciaelise said...

I've had them a few places - keep your eye out next time you get donuts. They are delish!

Jamie Stone said...

Either would be great for us once David is done with busy season (April). I'll put this on David's radar and hopefully between the 4 of us we can get something worked out!

Kelly Janowski said...

Not planning on it. I have to be more selective with races this season.
