The Honest Company

Remember when I went off the deep end checking labels on personal products? Yep, still happening.

Deodorant is a tough one. Still working on that one...

Anyways, Jessica Alba decided that between having a perfect body, successful career, and millions of dollars, she wanted to make a non-toxic and chemical free line of cleaning, personal, and baby products. Between having babies and making movies, she founded The Honest Company. (<---That's an invite link).

I knew about the company for a while, but didn't decide to try it until I got the 411 from my best friend who is a new mom. She was the one that originally introduced me to the EWG database, and she is my chemical free, non-toxic role model. She said I should order the sampler when I got home. Done and done.

Sampler (free trial) was ordered (just pay $5.95 shipping) and it arrived with generous sample sizes of the body lotion, laundry detergent, healing balm, hand wash, and body wash.

It also comes complete with a list of chemicals and toxins that are NOT in the products, so you can rest assure that the products you are using in your home and on your body are 100% safe.

I knew about the cleaning products, but I was surprised to see the whole range of items The Honest Company offers.

Over the past week, I have tried everything in the trial except the laundry detergent (I am keeping the small size for a trip) and I'm a fan. They body wash, lotion, and hand soap all have a very light scent, nothing overwhelming or dominating. I have been loving Vasaline Spray & Go Moisturizer, but after seeing its rating on the EWG database (6- Details HERE), I decided I wanted to find something a bit more natural next time. The Honest Company's face & body lotion is a 0 on the EWG database, plus feels light and absorbs into the skin quickly. I went through the sample is a couple days and immediately went online to see what the deal was with ordering more.

I was a little confused about the "bundle" that is offered. I assumed it was a pack of their best selling products that was sent to your house every month and the other products not in the bundle could be purchased separately. I was mistaken. There is an "Essentials" bundle, but you can switch out the product and make your own custom bundle with the exact products you need. You get 5 products of your choice for $35.95 and you can add 3 additional products for 25% off. I filled my bundle with laundry detergent, dish soap, toothpaste, lotion, and a multi-surface cleaner (shown below).

My household is only my husband and myself, so I anticipated that I would order a bundle and then cancel my subscription because there would be no way we could go through all the products in a month, so after I got notification that my bundle had shipped, I called to cancel. The customer service was fantastic and explained that I could pick how often I wanted my bundles shipped, so I wasn't committed to having it delivered every month. I was able to pick a date at the end of November for my next shipment, so I will have plenty of time to go through the products and decide what I need in my next bundle. The flexibility is awesome and I'm excited to try some new products. Fingers crossed that these chemical free goodies are winners.

Any chemical free or natural products you can rave about? I am always on the lookout for recommendations since natural products can be hit or miss.

I have been using Honest products for over a year now and I can honestly say there hasn't been a product I don't love! The dishwasher pods and rinse aid to wonders for my dishes. Also, if you have hard wood floors the floor cleaner is amazing.

Big fan of Honest products too. The hair conditioning mist is one of my faves. Have you heard of the Sibu Beauty line? Cruelty free and vegan. I use their facial cleanser and body bar. Also highly recommend Josie Maran's argan oil day moisturizer with SPF.

Have you tried Norwex? All of their products are natural and chemical free..you only need to use water with some of them.

I am 100% obsessed with DeodoMom deodorant (http://www.30someweeks.com/deodorant.html) I'm not a mom, I'm not pregnant, but I was on the lookout for a natural deodorant for a long time and DeodoMom is perfect. I've been using it for about 5 months now, through the boiling hot NYC summer and many, many super sweaty workouts and I've never felt like I smell bad. It's amazing and I highly, highly recommend it.

First off, I love your blog. Long time reader, first time posting!
I just went an ordered QUITE a few things from Honest Co. through the link. I also like how you can just buy individual items. The bundle, and your points about the bundle (just me the husband and the dog) made me a scooch put off at first. But now I am really excited to try all the products out!!!! :)

My package arrived today and I am excited to try the items. I have been reading mixed messages about fluoride in toothpaste and I was excited to see a fluoride free toothpaste. I also really like the scent of fresh laundry (TIDE!), but I'm going to give the natural laundry detergent a try. Let you know. What did you order?

Just stops smell, still lets you sweat, right?

Yes, I heard they have some cloths that are life-changing. Is it like Amway where people sell individually?

I am looking for a natural facial moisturizer, so I will check it out. Thanks!

I only got the dishwashing soap because I have a TON of pods, but I am def ordering the rinse aid next time.

Yay! Enjoy! I have been using the healing balm as chapstick

I *almost*added the tooth paste myself! I ordered the balm, floor cleaner(own a 100+yr old historic home, hardwords are "fussy" lol), dishwasher pods, shampoo, conditioner spray, scrubber, handsoap( had to it was lavender!) and the laundry detergent. I have sensitive skin and so detergent that is gentle but smells like Tide is important to me! Plus with gym clothes(I am looking at you, husband!) there needs to be a gentle scent! Love to read a product review when you get your bundle!

i love the honest company. i started using the products for my kids- diapers and bath soap. and now i am hooked. i get my shipment every 8 weeks and am always ready for something at that point. i adore the bath products and adorable diapers, but in addition to that, the dish soap is awesome, the toothpaste is even great and my house is basically bathed in the multi purpose cleaner on a weekly basis. i hope you love all the stuff. i've never used the supplements because i am loyal to shaklee in that regard.

I've never looked into using chemical-free household products. I use vinegar and baking soda for many of my cleaning duties. I will have to check out the Honest co!

I love Jessica Alba and her company. Her book is amazing and I just ordered my sample pack. Like you, I am changing my ways and learning about chemicals and which products do a body good.

I subscribe to the honest diaper bundle as well as the cleaning bundle. The diapers rock! But I really like both the laundry detergent as well as the 4 in 1 laundry pods (we are a house of 4 so go through a LOT of laundry). I use only the all purpose spray in my kitchen and then I am in LOVE with the Bathroom cleaner as well as the toilet cleaner. I think it smells great and I am thankful that I can clean without the smell of harsh chemicals lingering for days. Last month I bought the anti-bacterial spray and that has helped a lot since fl0/strep season s beginning in Chicago. To be honest, thinking this through I haven't found a product that I didn't like. I too just re-scheduled my bundle based on when things get low and it works great for our family.

Great company, great products. I can't believe Jessica Alba actually founded it, but damn, her discovery story sure is an eye-opener for every young mom out there.
